Avery Point
Mature woodlands and the winding path of Tuckahoe Creek border Avery Point's 94 acres in the Virginia foothills. This first phase of the continuing care retirement community serves adults aged 62 and above, integrating residences and amenities within the preserved landscape. Perimeter forestation and designated tree preservation areas create natural corridors throughout the campus, allowing residents to experience seasonal changes from every vantage point.
Design Elements
Four- and five-story buildings follow the site's natural contours. Earth-toned lap siding, battened panels, and stone veneer clad the exterior walls. The architecture preserves established forest along the perimeter, while elevated walkways link the buildings. From private balconies, residents view protected groves in all directions. The development encompasses 216 independent living residences and 43,000 square feet of communal areas.
Community Core
The Emerson Square Community Building connects two residential wings—Fulton Landing and Stafford Glen. A double-sided fireplace anchors the main living room, creating zones for conversation and cards. Local artwork complements the warm neutral palette, while clerestory windows illuminate interior galleries. Each sightline concludes with views of surrounding trees.

Dining Venues
One central kitchen serves three distinct restaurants. The 62-seat tavern features 14-foot ceilings and doubles as a pre-theater gathering area. In the 88-seat Creek Café, glass doors open to a private dining terrace. A formal dining room accommodates 112 guests beneath high windows, with flexible seating for intimate dinners or large celebrations.
Wellness Amenities
Custom tile murals accent the natatorium, which combines a zero-entry pool with dedicated swimming lanes and a curved shallow zone for water exercise. Adjacent fitness facilities include a training studio and exercise equipment. Walking paths lead to community gardens, pickleball courts, and a dog park. An on-site medical center provides specialized care.
Residential Options
Among 30 floor plans, the 1,863-square-foot Wilmington offers two bedrooms, two and a half baths, a den, and outdoor living area. Additional two-bedroom designs include the 1,177-square-foot Maplewood and 1,382-square-foot Rutherford. Five finish packages provide foundations for personalized interiors.
Cultural Amenities
Sound-isolating walls ensure acoustic excellence in the theater. The library pairs study areas with comfortable seating near a fireplace. Dedicated classrooms host educational programs, while craft studios encourage artistic pursuits. A full-service salon and day spa round out the offerings.
Infrastructure
A passive-optical-network fiber system supports multiple service providers and future expansion. Wireless locks enhance security. Independent utility systems prevent service interruptions.
Future Development
The master plan balances growth with preservation across the 94-acre site. As Avery Point expands toward 1,200 independent living units and two million square feet, each phase will protect woodland areas and add connected structures. Underground utilities follow routes that safeguard existing trees. Future phases will introduce concierge living units and expanded care options, including assisted living and memory care. Construction staging areas protect established community activities.
