Meet Jasmaine A. Jarvis

How did your military experience influence your approach to interior design projects?

I served in the Marine Corps for 2.5 years before being honorably discharged, holding the rank of Lance Corporal and stationed at Camp Lejeune. My military experience has greatly influenced my approach to interior design projects. Working in high-pressure situations taught me to maintain focus and meet deadlines effectively. I also learned the importance of teamwork; understanding that we succeed together reinforces my commitment to collaboration in every project.

What attracted you to this profession?

What attracted me to interior design was the opportunity to improve people’s mental health and overall well-being while making a positive impact on their environment.

What three words would you use to describe your job?

Creative Catalyst: As a creative catalyst, I transform spaces into uplifting environments that inspire joy and well-being, blending artistry with functionality.

What are the most important personality traits to have in your profession?

The most important personality traits for my job include being an active listener, a problem-solver, empathetic, and highly organized.

What’s a typical week in your job like?

A typical work week for me involves meeting with all my project teams to assess the status of each project and prioritize tasks from the most critical to the least urgent. I delegate my needs to the team, schedule focused work time around internal and client meetings, and check off completed tasks to experience a sense of accomplishment by the end of the week.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy the freedom and diversity of sectors I work in with my project team. Collaborating closely with architects and designers allows us to dive deep into the details and create projects that we can all be proud of.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging aspect of my job is juggling the amount of travel time (3+ hours), along with meetings and actual production time.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

There are so many great options that it’s tough to choose, but CCSD D10 and USC Upstate stand out!

What have you accomplished at Moseley Architects that you’re proudest of?

Being recognized as an asset to my team and the overall firm in under a year.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?

My favorite pastime outside of work is creating event backdrops and diving into all kinds of books.

What music are you listening to right now?

I’m currently enjoying music from the early to mid-90s, from power ballads to the soft crooning tones of jazz.

What’s your favorite film?

My favorite movie today is Beauty and the Beast, but it might change tomorrow!

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

The best gift I ever received was a book set by Anne Rice from my grandmother.

What’s your motto or mantra?

Just keep swimming!
