Completed in 2019, Moseley Architects’ renovation of Old Dominion University’s Kornblau Field at Ballard Stadium achieved certification through the Green Building Certification Institute’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®). The project consists of an open-air building and select interior spaces with sustainability features that include parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles, exterior lighting designed to reduce light pollution and non-potable water used for irrigation. Water efficiency measures are estimated to conserve 35,000 gallons per year, equivalent to 37% in savings, in addition to energy efficiency features projected to reduce energy use by 18%.
Additional sustainability features in design and construction include:
Materials and Resources
- 78% of construction waste diverted from a landfill
- 26% of building materials made up of recycled content
- At least 40 building materials with publicly available Environmental Product Disclosures and Health Product Disclosures
Indoor Air Quality
- An indoor air quality management plan was implemented during the construction and preoccupancy phases
- All adhesives, sealants, paints, and coatings meet LEED VOC content thresholds
- Floorscore®-certified flooring material
- Composite wood products without added urea formaldehyde
