From its site on Baltimore's highest point, Metro Heights welcomes a diverse community. A glass corner tower contains gathering rooms on each floor, giving all 70 households—including market-rate, affordable, and supported housing residents—access to panoramic city views. Over 1,000 prospective residents sought homes at Liberty Heights Avenue and Reisterstown Road, where a green roof, on-site social services, and connections to 11 bus lines support urban living.

Design Features

A steel-framed entrance punctuates the intersection with an angular glass facade ascending four stories. Along Liberty Heights Avenue and Reisterstown Road, brick and fiber cement siding complement the neighboring rowhomes. Healthcare for the Homeless operates offices in the building, providing case management to help formerly homeless residents establish stable lives.

Community Areas

Rather than clustering amenities on one level, Metro Heights distributes social rooms vertically. Floor-to-ceiling windows in each floor's corner room frame Baltimore's skyline. From the entrance plaza, residents access a business center, exercise rooms, and a top-floor club room.

Environmental Design

LEED Gold certification reflects Metro Heights' resource-efficient systems: Energy Star windows and appliances, high-performance HVAC, and water-saving plumbing. The green roof and native plants reduce energy use while adding natural elements.

Transportation Access

The Mondawmin transit station across the street connects to downtown Baltimore and beyond through 11 bus lines and Metro service. Mondawmin Mall provides retail and medical offices, while Druid Hill Park, the Maryland Zoo, and Parks and People Foundation offer outdoor recreation.

Building Details

A concrete garage with 33 spaces forms the base for four stories of wood-frame construction, with 10 additional surface parking spots. Each apartment includes laundry equipment. The mix of market-rate and affordable units, including homes for disabled and formerly homeless individuals, drew applications from over 1,000 potential residents.

Neighborhood Connection

Landscaped terraces create an open transition from sidewalk to entrance while ensuring resident security. Public spaces and shops occupied the other three corners; Metro Heights completes the intersection with homes that strengthen the neighborhood's residential character.
