The Orangeburg Detention Center provides a secure environment for 354 inmates while solving operational challenges that previously hindered the county's detention operations. The facility eliminates numerous infrastructure issues that plagued its predecessor, including surveillance blind spots, lock system failures, and deteriorating building systems.
The facility's housing areas incorporate dayrooms filled with natural light, dedicated recreation spaces for fresh air, and multipurpose rooms for various activities. Video technology enables efficient visitation and arraignment processes, while positioned control rooms maintain continuous oversight.
A spacious sally port accommodates full-sized buses at the center's core. The intake and booking area includes holding cells, an officer's station, and shower facilities. The property storage system keeps inmate belongings organized and secure.
The medical wing contains examination rooms, a nurse's workstation, and specialized containment measures including a negative pressure holding cell. On-site kitchen and laundry operations allow the facility to function independently.
The administrative wing houses record-keeping, staff facilities, and professional development spaces. Training rooms and conference areas allow for staff education and coordination. The public video visitation room's location next to the lobby creates an efficient entry point while preserving security protocols.
