Ben Whitener

Ben's interest in architecture began with childhood fort-building alongside his brothers.
As leader of the Charleston office and a principal at Moseley, he leads through collaboration, ensuring all team members share in successes. With over twenty-five years of experience, Ben is well-versed in the complexities of large public building projects, historic renovations, and condition assessments. He particularly values opportunities to support young interns. He has been a student mentor, sponsor, and design critic for the Clemson University Design Center in Charleston for over twenty years.
Ben approaches design as a joint effort between architects, engineers, and building owners. Each project must respond to specific requirements while fitting its location. This philosophy, combined with his dedication to teamwork, shapes both the structures he creates and the professional growth of those around him.
Charleston, with its historic architecture, provides an inspiring backdrop for Ben's work. He appreciates the city's character and the daily opportunities to work jointly with talented colleagues in a place that excels as a living and working environment. Ben currently serves on the City of Charleston Design Review Board, and he previously served for nine years as a trustee of the Clemson Architectural Foundation.
